Earlier this year, Green Umbrella Publishing were approached by Amazon, and asked if they could supply their bibliographic data in the ONIX format.
Naturally, as users of the BooksoniX booklist management service, Green Umbrella Publishing just passed the request onto Headfast – the team behind the BooksoniX service – to set this up.
The whole process went very smoothly, from receiving the specification from Amazon, through a successful test run, to supplying data on a regular basis. In fact the whole automated feed was up and running within a few days.
“We were delighted with the speed at which our data was fed to Amazon,” remarked Carl Edwards, Sales Director at Green Umbrella Publishing. “We did not have to manipulate, re-key or do anything with our bibliographic data. All we had to do was ask BooksoniX to add Amazon to our list of third party data recipients, and it all happened without any interaction from us!”
Sue Hyman, Managing Director, Headfast (the specialist software service company that provides the BooksoniX service) commented: “We were pleased to have been in a position to swiftly comply with Amazon’s request. Over the last year we have found more and more organisations are asking for bibliographic data to be supplied in the ONIX format, it is fast becoming a competitive advantage amongst publishers. Of course, ONIX data dissemination is just one of a whole range of benefits of using the BooksoniX service, and Green Umbrella Publishing has been keen to use as many of the facilities as possible.”
